The fatal incident happened at about 8.30am in front of Wat Thanun in tambon Khok Kloy.



According to police, the passenger van was taking eight Chinese tourists from Phuket to Tap Lamu pier in Phang-nga's Thai Muang district to travel to Mu Ko Similan.



Witnesses told police that as the passenger van arrived near the scene on the Phetkasem highway, it rammed into the back of the trailer waiting to make a U-turn on the highway.



The collision killed the van driver and a female Chinese tourist, and seriously injured seven other tourists comprising three female and four males.



The truck driver Waranon Boonkerd, 28, said as he was about to make a U-turn on the road in front of Thanun temple, he heard a loud bang at the rear.



He climbed down the truck to check and found the badly damage van and the injured tourists. All the injured were rushed to Takua Thung hospital.



Police said they were questioning eyewitnesses and the injured tourists to find the exact cause of the accident.
